Yurlov Russian State Academic Choir is one of the oldest and most famous Russian musical collectives, accommodating both traditional Russian Orthodox music and today’s contemporary themes.
A major factor in the choir’s development is through its collaborations with Shostakovich and Sviridov choosing the choir to showcase many new pieces of work.
Yurlov Russian State Academic Choir is the combination of increased technical skills and broadened repertoire, working with varying compositions from Rakhmaninov, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Shnitke that have lead to the choir being known as Russia’s ‘best’.

 

The Yurlov Choir has been to Tallinn for a concert commemorating the 20th anniversary of the consecration to bishop of Kornelius, the Metropolitan of Tallinn and All Estonia. The celebration was organized with the blessing of Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, and attended by Ilarion (Alfeev), metropolitan of Volokolamsk and head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for Foreign Relations.

On May 21, the Yurlov Choir came back to Moscow, completing its concert tour of Lithuanian and Polish cities. There the Choir took part in two choir festivals, the 12th international festival of Russian Orthodox church music held annually in the Lithuanian cities of Vilnius and Kaunas, and the 29th Hajnowka international festival of church music hosted by Warsaw, Krakov and Belostok and gathering together choirs from all over the world.

On January 23, the Yurlov Russian State Academic Choir gave its second season-ticket concert, Masterpieces of Russian and West-European Music. The programme features pieces by Sergei Rakhmaninov.
